What Kind of Movies Should we Expect from Akshay Kumar?
Akshay Kumar’s latest release Samrat Prithviraj failed to draw the public to theatres. This historical drama could hardly make 65 crores in its first week. This was very disappointing looking at the large budget of Rs 200 crore in which it was reportedly made. Amid the film’s dropping collections, the filmmaker in an interview with a media channel revealed what Akshay Kumar had told him if the film failed to attract the audience, Filmmaker stated that Akshay had once shared that if this film failed to fare at the box office he will return to non-controversial films like Rowdy Rathore and Housefull.
In the film Samrat Prithviraj, Akshay plays the role of the grand medieval king Prithviraj Chauhan who fights battles against Mohammed of Ghor in the 12th century. The first-time venture of Yashraj films in the historical genre stars Manushi Chillar in her Bollywood debut. It also stars actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, and Manav Vij.
Despite its grand scale release and much anticipation, the film opened below expectations at the box office. Talking about the second weekend it saw an 82 percent dip. According to trade analysts, the film is not likely to even reach the 100 crore mark as against the 200 crores at which this historical drama was made.
Speaking to NavBharat Times, Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi talks about a film’s failure deeply affects the people involved in it. He stated, “If a film flops, the producers become disheartened. This is the first historical film Yash Raj Films made. If this becomes successful, they will make more. Otherwise, their organization has been regularly making films. They will go back to doing what they were.”
