Saina Nehwal is an international-level badminton player who has made India proud with her skills. Truly, she has worked immensely hard to represent and showcase India in a positive light in international sports.
As an inspiration that she is, Saina Nehwal’s biopic was something we were surely expecting. But, how is this movie staring Parineeti Chopra? Let’s find out!
Honest Review of Saina Nehwal’s Biopic
The movie was released on 26th March 2021 and is available online on Amazon Prime for viewers.
While the journey of Saina Nehwal is inspirational, no doubt, the movie does not do justice to the hardships the badminton player went through to get where she is today. Saina has won gold in major international tournaments like the Commonwealth Games, won bronze at the Olympics. The sports player has also won national awards such as Arjuna Award (2009), Padma Shri (2010), Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2010), and Padma Bhushan (2016). In fact, Saina is also the only badminton player in India (male or female) to win 24 individual titles.
With so many medals to her name, the movie makes it look much easier than the journey would have been.
Not only was the movie not do justice to the efforts sports players put in to be at the international level, don’t even get us started on Parineeti Chopra’s acting, which was mediocre at best. Along with this, the badminton stadiums were not at all convincing to viewers. We could clearly tell that those scenes were shot in a studio and in the frames which showed the audience and the game, the audience was clearly added in with a video editing software. Now, I’m no experts in video editing. But, if a person like me can spot this out, the team clearly could have done a better job.
As mentioned above, while Saina Nehwal is an inspirational sports player who has made the nation proud, the movie does not do justice to her journey.
