As we were just coming to terms with the news of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s death, the Bollywood industry sees another shocking day. Veteran singer Bappi Lahiri passed away just before midnight on February 15 at the age of 69.
The singer was admitted to the hospital and he passed away due to obstructive sleep apnea. For those who are curious, obstructive sleep apnea is a common sleep-related breathing disorder which causes people to repeatedly stop and start breathing while they are asleep.
Bappi Lahiri was admitted to CritiCare Hospital in Mumbai. The director of the hospital, Dr Deepak Namjoshi, told PTI that “Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight.”
He had also contracted COVID last year in April which led to him getting hospitalized in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Veteran Singer Bappi Lahiri had recovered after a few days.
The singer defined the disco era of Bollywood in the 1970s and 1980s. He gave us songs like Chalte Chalte, Disco Dancer, and Sharaabi and the last song he was a part of was Bhankas was for the 2020 film Baaghi 3.
A truly sad year for the Bollywood industry. We wish that he Rests in Peace and are truly saddened by his loss.
