There are so many Bollywood movies that are released every year. While some may seem to be a waste of time and money, others are totally worth watching.

Today, we are going to focus on those Bollywood movies which were aimed towards bringing a change in Indian society. That’s why we feel everyone should watch these movies at least once.

1. Padman

Periods are a natural process a woman goes through every month. Yet, it still remains a hush-hush topic in India. It goes to such an extent that women in rural areas do not have the proper knowledge and understanding of personal hygiene.

Padman is a movie based on a true story where a man from a village works towards providing village women a cheaper sanitary napkin. But, the road is not an easy one for him, as his own family turns their backs on him. He is considered as a disgrace to the family and his village. But, that does not stop him.

2. Queen

In India, it is considered by many people that a woman should always be dependant on a male member of the family – whether its the father or her husband. A lot of her decisions are influenced because of this.

Queen is a movie where a middle-class girl’s marriage gets married at the last minute. But, she decides to go on her honeymoon anyway to Europe. This trip makes her realise who she is as an individual and she comes back to be a confident and independent.

3. Taare Zameen Par

Mental illness is a thing. And in some cases (like autism), it can NOT be reversed or ‘fixed’. But, this is a concept that people find hard to believe at times. Instead, they go out looking for a cure, whereas they should be working on finding a way to make things easier for the person.

Taare Zameen Par is about a young boy who has dyslexia. While he is brilliant in art, his academic performance is poor. That’s why his parents send him off to a boarding school, hoping he’ll magically learn how to take care of himself. There, he finds a teacher who helps the boy realise his true potential.

4. 3 Idiots

In many households around India, engineering, law, business, and medicine are the only options for higher education. Nothing else. But, at times, a child may have a passion for another topic altogether.

3 Idiots is a movie about three boys who meet in an engineering college in India. This movie beautifully conveys the concept that one should go after knowledge. If you know what you’re doing, success will find it’s way to you, not wise versa.

5. Luka Chuppi

While love marriages are still acceptable in certain areas of India, it is a concept people are not completely comfortable with. That’s why it has become even harder for couples wanting to go into a live-in relationship in India.

Luka Chuppi is a movie which came out earlier in 2019 which showcases everything a couple goes through while trying to find a place together. It puts light on the fact that couples may want to understand each other before they commit to a marriage.

6. Chhichhore

A Bollywood movie that touched the heart of every Indian. The movie touches on the pressure put on high school children to get into an engineering college and how kids feel like a failure if they don’t getting into a big college. In this comical drama, the cast does an amazing job shedding light on a topic that should’ve come up a long time ago.
